KL Caley is our host for the Thursday Write Photo challenge.
For visually challenged writers, the image shows an old fashioned writing mahogany writing desk and chair. Papers are splayed on the desk and a jacket has been slung over a chair.
‘It doesn’t look right there,’ Kayleigh said.
Pete sighed. This was the fourth room they tried it in and the removal guys were great. Although still smiling, he could tell their good humour was starting to wane.
‘Well we can’t put it in the kitchen and it would be ruined if we put it in the conservatory with the extremes in temperatures, so it is either here, the library, dining room or the lounge. Sorry guys……’ he added with a resigned shrug.
‘It’s just so BIG, and it dwarfs the other furniture in here, but I don’t want to get rid of it.’
The older of the two workmen came up to Pete and said
‘If I may make a suggestion…….?’
Kayleigh was thrilled. Tom and Mick had been so helpful in rearranging the furniture in the study and moving some smaller pieces out into the library. It left a complete panelled wall free to put the desk against and with the pictures of her parents hanging either side, gave a whole new feeling to the room.
Pete escorted the two men out and thanking them for their time and patience, slipped them twenty pounds each.
When he returned to the library, Kayleigh was lovingly touching the wood.
‘It’s almost as if Dad’s still with us Pete. He loved this desk and I have so many memories of him sitting at it.’
‘I know.’ he said simply.
Quite heartwarming

Youβre welcome
No doubt that old writing desk could tell some stories…especially the one’s that were written on the papers.
Beautiful story and take on the prompt.
Thanks Jude.

Wow! A really nice snapshot of what could have been a disaster that turned into a triumph!
Thank you!
