Things were different back in the day when I had all of my teeth, hair and could hear a pin drop in the next room. I stood six feet tall without shoes, and had 20/20 vision.
I could run a mile in just over four minutes, and could stay up until the early hours without flagging.
Old age sucks.
My teeth smile at me from a glass on the dresser, my hair emigrated from my scalp years ago, and as long as the batteries are working, I can hear some things said without having to ask for it to be repeated. I now stoop to five feet eight inches on a good day.
I can do a mile in about fifteen minutes though but that’s on a mobility scooter at full throttle.
As for staying awake, I nod off at the drop of a hat and swear blind if I died in my chair no-one would notice.

About pensitivity101
I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes!
In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too.
On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts.
From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives.
We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
Mary’s always yelling at me for falling asleep in front of the computer and snoring…
Hubby drops off easily in the afternoons. He doesn’t sleep that well most nights so at least he’s getting some rest.
That’s me in a nutshell: I don’t feel like going to bed until 1 AM, don’t go to sleep until after 2, and I’m up every 90 minutes to pee. Then I can’t get back to sleep…
I’ll normally turn the light off around 11 and tell Maya not to wake me up before 6! I may have to get up in the night but not very often.
I think the getting up several times during the night” is more of a guy thing…
Nah……… happens to us too. As long as I have nothing to drink after about 8.30 I’m OK, but later than that, nope, gotta go around 2am.
Thanks for making me laugh with your fun story, Di.
You’re welcome Jim. Always happy to make at least one person smile every day.
Love this retrospective on aging. I had 4 hrs 39 min of sleep last night and Sparky had 4 hrs 55 min. My sleep tracker informed me that my sleep score was 81 and my sleep quality was good. Sparky only scored a 68 and had fair sleep. He had to nap this afternoon!
I find it hard to nap in the afternoon but Hubby has it down to an art (ex RAF, grab sleep when you can). If I can have 6 hours straight, I’m usually OK. I tell Maya every night not to wake me up before 6. Sometimes se listens!
Hubby announces every evening … oh I nodded off.
