Bathroom Project Day 10

Tiling was on the agenda today, but we hit a small snag in that we thought we might not have enough tiles as none of what would be cut offs could be used elsewhere. We phoned the store and after a bit of searching as the product code had changed because it was now a discontinued line, they had three boxes left at a discounted price, so we reserved all three.
We therefore lost an entire morning having to run around and Hubby couldn’t start until after lunch, our second day of vegetable stew.

Hubby had invested in a professional tile cutting tool which turned out to be useless as it mashed the edge of the tile when he tried to snap it after scoring it. Sacrificing that one, he practised with varying results, but no straight and clean edges. It didn’t help that the walls weren’t straight so with the fun he’d already had with levelling the floor, I was beginning to feel like the Crooked Man from the nursery rhyme.
Plan B was his disc cutter and he found a technique that worked. Measuring carefully, he discovered that the cut pieces on the one wall were half a tile so this was jolly convenient and he cut 6 tiles in half for the job……….. only to find they were too short due to a miscalculation allowing for tile spacers. So, we were now 7 tiles down, but can use some of the 12 halves behind where the cupboard (to be purchased) will go.
He got rid of some of his pent up frustration by punching and karate chopping some boxes in the cardboard collection bin.

I was sent out to buy some more diamond stone cutting discs whilst he remeasured and cut tiles to the necessary length. Hubby has now tiled the one wall and it is looking good.
He called it a day at 5pm and started clearing up while I put the first load of washing on knowing that everything he was wearing would go in the wash. He’s ruined a pair of joggers so is keeping those to finish the job tomorrow then they’ll go in the bin.
I then took the washing up to the launderette and Hubby walked Maya up to meet me.
Hopefully he’ll be able to finish the tiles and grout them tomorrow.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Isn’t it great when you get a tool to help you do a job and discover that it causes you more work?
