Linda is our host and Jily at J-dub ‘s grin and bear it has supplied the prompt of FAMILY
When Mum was alive, we spanned five living generations. I am therefore a great great aunty to a 9 year lad born on Christmas Day 2013. I’ve met him twice, once in July 2017 at my niece’s wedding and again in February 2018 at Mum’s funeral .
I have lost track of the second and third generation of nieces/nephews and wouldn’t know them if they knocked on my door.
This collage is five generations from many years ago being my nephews/nieces, sister, parents, grandparents and great grandparents, though they were not all living at the time I put it together.
My family is not close and not just because of distance (some in NZ, some in Oz and some in the US I believe). My nearest relative is 140 miles away and the next nearest 260 miles away.
It’s sad because one of my favourite TV programs was The Waltons.

Hey you are a great person I would be proud to have you as a sister…and hey even the Walton’s had up and downs!
Thanks Willow. Lovely to know. And yes, they certainly did.

I feel sad for you Di!
I know its just how it is sometimes, but still, I wish you knew that closeness. X
Thanks Carol Anne, but no need. It’s just the way it is, but we have some good friends here and they are like family.
Friends are family we choose for ourselves! I love my family (and Sparky’s too) but some of my best friends are like sisters without the baggage of having to endure sibling rivalry!
Very much so.
I’m an uncle and a great-uncle but, to be honest, I’m not exactly sure how many times over. I just know it’s a lot 🙂
Likewise. I have nephews in their 50s, nieces in their 40s and great nieces/nephews in their 20s.
Makes me feel old, and then I realise to them, I am old!!
