The floor has been our nemesis and Hubby has had no choice but to take up what he had done and start again.
Our delivery was due between 6.30 and 7.30 this evening so we had some time to run around and get some additional materials and alternatives.
We discovered that the levelling compound was suitable for depths of 3mm to 50mm so we couldn’t use it as we only wanted to raise parts of the concrete floor by 1mm. It’s not a lot is it, but this is definitely a case where size matters and as we had so much give in the boards despite Hubby’s wedge fix, we could have been inviting trouble by putting stress on the shower tray which could then possibly crack.
Hubby has put a layer of mortar where it counts and will support the boards with additional blocks like a ladder underneath. Hopefully he can re-use the boards he’d already put in place as he managed to get them up without damage. We did buy some more today just in case, but hopefully they can go back for a refund, as well as the levelling compound.
Our delivery actually came around 3pm so the driver was way ahead of schedule and it was a good job we hadn’t been out all day. This was the tiling tape to go between the base of the shower tray and bottom row of tiles. Hubby has the plumbing to do first, but as to whether this will begin tomorrow is uncertain.
He has a hospital appointment on Thursday so nothing can be done on that day and our friend is having Maya for us. Friday he may not feel up to doing anything, but the weekend is clear as is all of next week, though the car goes in for MOT and service on Monday so we won’t be going anywhere anyway.
Things aren’t as easy or simple as we think they are.
Never for us anyway!
😍
That is the problem with the DIY – the unexpected! At least your husband is clever and innovative! I’m sure he’ll figure out what to do to solve every problem!!
He is very good at problem solving, many times out of the box!
Following your progress with interest, as this is something we need to do too…
We are doing OK, but the floor has been a nightmare. Hopefully we should be able to make good progress over the weekend.
I hope so…
Wow, sounds like a lot of effort, but you’ll reap the rewards 😊
Sadly yes, but it will all pay off in the end.
You and hubby could do with a break until the weekend.
We are having a day off tomorrow and hopefully will resume work on Friday.
