Goodnight sweet friend

In July 2021, we had a furry house guest while our friend was in hospital.

In March 2022, our friend was taken ill suddenly and Kela came to stay with us so Maya had some company. The two dogs got on OK.

We sometimes walked both dogs together as our friend was getting back on her feet, and later would sometimes walk together, a dog each, and do The Kela Route.

Sadly, Kela passed away yesterday. She was 14.
Rainbow Bridge has another playmate and she can rejoin Remi who was hers.
Goodnight and God Bless sweetheart.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. It is so sad to lose our beloved fur babies. Really we have them for such a short time. Kela did have a very long life, especially for a large dog, so her mom was lucky in that regard. Kela was lovely and I know you and Paul are also hurting right now. I am sorry for all of you and especially for Kela’s 2-legged. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Oh no! 😥 14 is a wonderful age but it does little to ease the pain. KL ❤️

  3. Paula Light says:

Aww. Hope she had an easy crossing 🌈

  4. John Holton says:

    Sorry for your loss…

  5. It’s always hard to lose a beloved animal even when you know that is their time to go.

Poor baby, now at peace and with friends on the other side of the rainbow bridge. (She’d probably scare the spots off Pepsi, who travelled that way in April 2022.)

    • Kela was a gentle giant, not an aggressive bone in her body. We hope Maya will be the same as the two got on very well so she shall miss her too.

Dogs understand death, and they do grieve.

      • Oh I know. When Babs died, the rough collie we had stood at the bottom of the garden where we’d buried her and after about five minutes, pawed the ground three times, then came indoors. He didn’t eat, rarely drank, and I was very worried about him which was why I looked for another GSD quite quickly and found Kizzy. He tried to rule the roost with her but she sat on his head, so he knew his place in the canine pecking order hadn’t changed.

I’m so sorry for your loss. She wasn’t yours, but she really was – she claimed your heart too, which says she’s an amazing addition to the world over that bridge

    • Hi Marla, yes she was a very special dog, and we were so pleased she took to us so that we could look after her while our friend was in hospital.

      • Marlapaige says:

It hurts, but that’s the blessed-curse, isn’t it? If a creature (human/pawed/hoofed/clawed) eeks their way into your heart, it hurts when they go. If it doesn’t hurt, they never really got in. So, the blessing is you got to love them. The curse is that you got to love them. I’ll count it as a blessing every time.

      • It goes with the territory of pet ownership. We have been blessed with good dogs, and Maya is getting there but she’s still a puppy so it will come. I love them all, and my heart just expands to make room for the next one. Kela is in there too and a few other dogs that belonged to somebody else.

      • Marlapaige says:

It is the part of pet ownership that I would never trade. Keep your heart expanding – it’s the most beautiful landscape there is!

      • Thank you for the lovely thought Marla.

      • Marlapaige says:

        Have an amazing day!

  10. Lauren says:

It’s a difficult time for all that loved her.

  11. Nope, Not Pam says:

So sad, May there be plenty of walks and places to explore over the rainbow bridge

    • She will love it and be reunited with her friend Remi who I believe died four years ago. He too was a large GSD x husky like Kela and our friend had them together from 18 months as rescues.

  12. Pets become family so fast, I’m sorry for your loss

  13. ghostmmnc says:

So sorry to hear about the passing of this beautiful friend. ❤

  14. glyn40wilton says:

Very sad indeed. I remember my collie/whippet cross; Kimba was 16 years old when he passed in 2018. He was a rescue dog and I had him since he was two years old.

    • It’s a sad time when we lose our furry friends. Kela was loved by us as well as her owner. Maggie was two months shy of her 16th birthday when we lost her in 2020. She left a big hole but Maya has made her own place in our hearts.

  15. murisopsis says:

This is such sad news… My sympathies for you and your neighbor. It is so hard to say good-bye. ❤

    • It is and she is finding it hard, but we are in contact every day. I did my ginger and pineapple chicken for lunch yesterday and put some in a dish for her as well. She thoroughly enjoyed it.
