It has been one of those days where things did not exactly go to plan.
We decided to have a field trip to dispose of one sack of dog food to charity and to purchase a door knocker.
Our first charity choice could not make use of our proposed donation because it was a full dried food, not mixer and greyhounds can have twitchy tummies. I am not surprised, but it was worth a shot. He suggested another dog charity in town which was our second choice, and they were over the moon so the other bags will be dropped off there too on our next trip as Maya won’t eat it now.
Before we had the door changed, we had a wired doorbell which gave us no problem.
However, new door and door frame, who wanted to drill holes in it, so we bought a wireless one.
The bell push failed so Hubby replaced the batteries and made sure the seal was secure.
It failed again, so another check and battery change, then this week it failed for the third time. Hubby took it apart and everything was dry, battery good, but still it wouldn’t work.
I found the installation instructions and we had done everything as per the spec…….. except reading the small print. The bell push should not be placed where it would come in contact with rain. What the hell is the point of having a doorbell button outside that can’t get wet??????
He spent a couple of quid on a wired bell push, but again it meant drilling a hole through the doorframe, so time for Plan B. We’re getting so good at those.
We’d purchased a door knocker for the original door, but it had tarnished within weeks and just went blotchy when we tried to clean it, even with Brasso. We thought to buy one that was NOT brass, but sadly could not find one of any description on our travels today.
We ended up going to the original shop here, but they only had what we’d purchased before, so I thought outside the box and bought a wall ring that we can attach to our external post box. Just need a plate to put behind it now…………………….
It’s a sticky question!
A very inventive solution!! Our doorbell is the original for the house (1982) and it doesn’t work well. It will chime one out of 5 pushes of the button… But Mochi will let us know if someone is at the door!! She often knows before they even get to the porch!!
Maya will alert up, but doesn’t bark, just walks to the door and stands there.
Small things can become so complicated
They can indeed Deb
When my dog; Kimba was alive, I never needed a doorbell because he was barking as soon as a delivery/postman was in sight. It’s the uniforms that got him going!
Maya doesn’t bark. She’ll alarm up and go to the door or stare out of the window, but bark? Nope, though we know she can!
