Toy Boy

He couldn’t believe that she was dumping him just because she found out he’d lied about his age.
What was the big deal?
He’d read about loads of celebrities whose partners were younger than them, some by decades, not just a few years.
When he pointed that out, she’d said she was an ordinary Jane Dow, not some pop star with oodles of money to have a tuck here, there and everywhere.
‘How do you know he’s kissing her and not some plastic reconstructed body part?’ she stated.
He tried again, but she wasn’t having it.
‘I’m sorry Gavin,’ she said.
He was gutted and hurt beyond measure. He really thought she was The One, and the age gap didn’t matter one iota to him.
‘It’s only twelve years Gwen, not five as I led you to believe, ‘ he said. ‘That’s nothing. My dad was 10 years younger than my Mom and my brother four years younger than his wife. They’re happy! Why can’t we be?’
She looked at him and the tears started to fall.
He made to take her in his arms but she held up her hand.
‘Don’t………………..’
She left the room and returned with a piece of paper. It was her birth certificate.
‘I don’t understand,’ he said.
‘It’s not twelve years Gavin, it’s 20. I’m old enough to be your mother. ‘
‘You lied too?’
Her bottom lip wobbled.
‘I still don’t care…………’
and he kissed her.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

I think she gaps are so interesting. I think falling for someone is difficult to stop past a point, but is fascinating that at different ages, different gaps are deemed acceptable by society. Nice story 🙂

  2. I do like a happy ending.

Age is just a number, as some say. Seems that both of them were insecure about the age difference. Good take on the story starter prompt, Di.

  4. Nope, Not Pam says:

15 years between hubby and me 🙂

As long as she wasn’t her mother, it’s okay.

No doubt Gavin also wobbled a bit, when Gwen gave him that piece of paper with her real age on it.
