Hello again! Di here standing in for Melanie for the time being.
From Melanie’s SYW introduction:
There are two ways in which you can participate:
Create a Share Your World post.
- Leave your answers in the comments box of this post or write your own post.
- To make it easy for others to check out your post, title your blog post “Share Your World” and link it to this post.
- Ping-backs are activated, but don’t always work properly. I think it is best to leave a link in a comment, just to be sure. It’s okay to just leave the link if you like and don’t have anything else to chat about. If you’d still like to try leaving a ping-back, instructions on how ping-backs work are found by clicking here. Thanks!
I also offer a ‘Gratitude Section’ for those who like a little affirmation with their questions! It’s always optional to participate in that portion of SYW of course.
I’m sticking with Melanie’s format and the gratitude section too so here are this week’s questions:
1. Do you prefer tea, coffee or juice first thing in the morning?
2. When it comes to food, what is your favourite smell?
3. Do you prefer a take-out or to dine in a restaurant?
4. If you are hosting a party, do you prepare the food yourself, get caterers in or ask everyone to bring something for the table?
Gratitude:
What has been the highlight of your week over the last seven days?
1. Do you prefer tea, coffee or juice first thing in the morning?
I prefer coffee and in particular Gluten Free Oat coffee, l have three a day early morning around 5am, then one at around 1pm and another at 6pm. The rest of the is either milk or black coffee, but the never the two combined.
2. When it comes to food, what is your favourite smell?
Fish and chips, but l can no longer eat them. But l live next to an Indian Cuisine Take Away and Restaurant, some of the smells are divine.
3. Do you prefer a take-out or to dine in a restaurant?
Take out is less fuss, but now too expensive.
4. If you are hosting a party, do you prepare the food yourself, get caterers in or ask everyone to bring something for the table?
I think these days l would suggest people bring their own, it’s easier with so many different palettes.
Gratitude:
What has been the highlight of your week this week?
Lots, but a huge thing on food wastage and sustainability of food wastes.
Thanks for joining in Rory. Good answers
Hey Di, glad you liked them 🙂
🙂
The cost of eating out has really gone HUGE. We used to eat out a couple of times a month. Now, we order pizza until we get tired of it. I do most of the cooking. I made Sauce Bolognese this evening and my son made meatballs to go with it.
We are working on making ONLY enough food to feed us. It’s a little tricky sometimes, but we’re working on it.
I’m planning a three day stew tomorrow as we have both got fed up with everything else!
We suffer from “food ennui.” We get really tired of the food we can afford. I try to be creative, but then I get tired of the creative NEW food. I haven’t made stew in a long time. When the summer finally goes away, then its a good time for stew — assuming we can afford the meat, of course.
Ours is all veg and we have it any time of the year. Today’s may well last us four days as there is rather a lot of it, so at least I won’t have to worry about main meals until the weekend.
Best way, and yet l see so many people who seemingly haven’t got a clue. Suze and l have very little wasteage, but our diets are so restrictive there is very little room for wastage. I think people in Britain are going to have a wake up call soon.
People in the UK are getting fed up with rising prices, inflation, and pathetic, if any, offers of wage increases. Something has to give…………… and soon. As for food, more and more lower paid struggling families are relying on food banks. I refuse to pay what is being asked in the shops for some food stuffs, and not buying alternatives either. Luckily, I can make a meal from scratch with basic ingredients, but even staple foods are now going through the roof.
Now we have a new PM and she hadn’t even reached Balmoral before the bookies were taking odds on her successor.
1. Do you prefer tea, coffee or juice first thing in the morning?
My day starts with a mug of decaf coffee which my mister brings me every morning while I’m still in bed. I am very sensitive to caffeine and have eliminated it entirely from my diet. I do not need that first jolt of caffeine to get me going; I’m good without it.
2. When it comes to food, what is your favourite smell?
This is so difficult to answer because I love the smell of most foods – fresh bread baking, coffee brewing, bacon sizzling, burgers grilling, fish and chips frying, fudge brownies oozing chocolate. When push comes to shove I have to say the aroma of steak on the grill gets me every time. I can always tell when one of my neighbors is barbecuing a steak and that gets my juices going. For me steak is irresistible.
3. Do you prefer a take-out or to dine in a restaurant?
That’s a pretty broad question. If we’re planning a birthday or anniversary dinner, then definitely I prefer dining in a restaurant and being served but those occasions are few and far between, especially with COVID. Take-out is nice because you can get whatever you want, be as casual as you please, and have the food brought to you. For this question I have to say it’s a matter of what the occasion is but if I have the option of staying in on a snowy night and ordering pizza as opposed to getting dressed and going to a fancy restaurant, pizza at home trumps the restaurant every time.
4. If you are hosting a party, do you prepare the food yourself, get caterers in or ask everyone to bring something for the table?
If it’s a small formal dinner party, I will do the cooking; if its a small party for my kids and grandkids then we’ll get take-out; if the party is big and casual, like an outdoor family reunion, then everyone will bring something; if it’s a large group like we had for our son’s wedding rehearsal dinner at home, then we’ll have it catered.
One of my favorite gratitude quotes is this: We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.
Good answers Nancy. Love your gratitude quote. Thanks for joining in.
☺️
Good questions this week Di 🙌🏼
Thank you!

I have water in the morning. I like the smell of corn. We do a 50/50 split on takeaway vs dining in and I’ve never hosted a party. So I have no idea about the last one
Thanks for taking part Deb

Thanks for taking over the challenge. It is one of my favorites. I wish I knew more of what’s going on with Melanie. Do you know anything? I am completely in the dark.
I don’t know very much, just that she had a bad fall and they are doing tests to find out what is going on as it seems to be affecting everything.
She’s at home now and hopefully getting her strength back. She said she was hoping to be back this month, but I haven’t heard anything recently.
Well, that’s more than I knew before. I didn’t know about the fall or really anything. Thank you for at least this information. I tend to worry.
These are the two posts I’ve put out on her behalf

Thank you! I get SOOO much email that things get buried and missed. I keep thinking I’m cutting down on it, but somehow, there’s EVEN MORE! I get hundreds of them a day and I can’t get them to stop.
You are most welcome
