The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Sept. 3, 2022

It’s every parent’s nightmare question from a child and how do they bat it?
‘Ask your father/mother’ usually.

Q: ‘Why do I have to go to bed early?’
A: Because you have to have 8 hours sleep. It’s a school night.
Response: ‘Why? So and so doesn’t. You don’t, so why should I?’
and so a battle of wills and patience begins as the little darlings wind us up and wear us down.

We are all for encouraging inquisitive minds, but I remember my days of bringing up a family and fostering and having to be prepared to provide suitable answers to the Whys of youth.

Written (loosely) for Linda Hill’s SoCS challenge.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

The why question from kids can drive you loopy! Lol! πŸ™‚

  4. Nope, Not Pam says:

Or, because I said so 😊

  5. It’s also a question that has frequently arisen during my inner child work. And those inner kids aren’t easily satisfied.

  6. John Holton says:

We found that Mom saying “Because I’m your mother and I say so! Go to bed now, dammit!” usually worked.

We were on a bus and there was a soon to be kindergartener sitting with her father – and the questions were non-stop! I complimented him on his patience in answering all the questions. I wish my father had been a little more patient with some of my questions about the “why” of things instead of resorting to “Because I said so”!
