Blogging Insights NF # 50 “Conversation is King”

Today’s quote from Dr Tanya is

Conversation is king. Content is just something to talk about. ~Cory Doctorow

When it comes to blogging, viewing stats are all very nice, but it is the comments that make it for me. The fact that my post has triggered something to make someone want to share their view is better than any tick on a like button. Conversation threads sometimes then go off in a different direction, and perhaps others posts are generated from a simple thought.

Outside of blogging though, the quote still stands though IMO the art of conversation as I remember it is dying. With modern technology, people find it easier to text or email someone rather than either pick up the phone or meet someone face to face. I appreciate that distance plays an important part, but we’ve read of people being dumped by text, and my sister notified me of my mother’s passing the same way. When I rang to be supportive, I was curtly told she was in ‘a bad place’ and she hung up on me. It didn’t seem to matter that it was my Mum too.

The written word is rarely read as the reader intended. Words on paper do not convey passion or emotions, and it doesn’t matter if you write in italics, capital letters or bold type, words on a screen do not have a voice.

I feel confident to hold my own in conversation about most subjects, but I think the saddest thing I’ve ever seen were two young people having a McDs and texting…………. to each other.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

You’re right there. I watched my son at a party once. There was no talking, they just texted each other. It was kind of sad

The art of conversion is dying

The art of conversation is definitely dying! I agree 100 percent with you on that!

“With modern technology, people find it easier to text or email someone rather than either pick up the phone or meet someone face to face.” Yes, most of my communications with family and friends is via text l.

  5. It really IS changing, even amongst the 20 somethings like my granddaughter. They don’t do that anymore. They used to, but times have moved on and so have they. Nothing stays the same, not even iPhones.

  6. I couldn’t agree more Di. For me too the fun lies in the comments thread that follows the post.
I too have been inspired to write a post based on points raised by comments.
