My question this week was this:
would you be bothered having a Chinese/Indian/Chippie/Pizza or similar on your doorstep or would you enjoy the convenience of having a takeaway outlet within walking distance.
The pub had been up for sale for some time and rumours ranged from revamped apartments, refugee accommodation, demolition and rebuild of flats, and a restaurant.
So far, we have not been too bothered by the smell from their kitchens, and from what we can understand from friends who have tried it, the food is pretty good and reasonably priced. They do takeouts as well as table service and close at 9pm which is not unreasonable either. There is a car park attached and no means for a drive through so traffic congestion is unlikely. Whilst walking the dog in the evening, it is busy, but not too noisy, though with the holiday season upon us, this may well change.
At the moment, the jury is out whether it’s a convenience or not. We were certainly not happy when we saw the extractor fans going in which actually face away from us, and it made sense then why so many of the flats in the block adjacent to it were up for sale.
There is a chippy a little further down the road closer to the beach. They are open longer hours, but not every day. We have sampled their food since it changed hands a couple of years ago, and like a lot of locals, have not been back. They will probably find it more of an annoyance in trade than we will in disturbances.
