Jim Adams is our host, and this week the theme chosen is one I put forward to find songs about Pets, Names, or Memories .
I’ve mentioned in previous posts how Maggie got her name (a people magnet) and many times Rod Stewart’s Maggie May was given credit for it.
Way back in 1971, this was Lobo’s debut single and the one I was thinking of when I suggested today’s theme. The lyrics are in the video.
“Me and You and a Dog Named Boo” was written by Lobo under his real name Kent LaVoie, it appears on the Introducing Lobo album.

However, here’s a bonus for you today as Jim has extended the theme to include memories. How could I not have this! Elaine Page at her very best and IMO she has never bettered this. This clip is awesome.

There is a personal story behind this as it is a piece I can play, but I used a beer towel mat at a pub bar to work out the notes in my head as I couldn’t get to a piano. It must have looked very strange with my eyes shut in front of a glass of orange juice with my hands ‘playing’ on a piece of fabric.
When I eventually got to a keyboard, I sat down and played it without error. The only thing I never got note perfect was the big key change finish.
Thanks Jim for choosing my theme this week.
I wondered if someone would be doing Me And You And A Dog Named Boo, as it is such a good fit for the theme. As it was your idea I guess you knew where you were going with this 😊
Hi Clive! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I bought this as a single in ’71 and changed the words to You and me and a Dog makes three at one stage.
You’re welcome. Dogs are such great pets and this is a nice song about that. Sorry, but I can’t stand Elaine Page though!
I don’t like her either, but this was really her debut to fame before it went to her head.
Just not my kind of music. I find it, and the people involved with it, far too artificial for my taste.
I liked the old musicals with Astaire and Rogers etc.
Those were much better than the Lloyd Webber tripe we get nowadays!
ha! You are so right Clive! Modern music period is mostly dire…………………. IMO
There’s plenty of good new music around, as long as you avoid the charts!
I don’t listen to the radio unless I’m in the car so very out of touch now.
I mostly pick mine up from Apple Music. Radio stations here are either stuck in oldies or playing stuff I don’t regard as music!
Got to agree about the radio stations Clive.
Thanks for the follow Clive. Welcome to my blog. Hope there are things of interest here for you.
You’re very welcome. It looked an interesting mix! And thank you for returning the compliment and looking at several of my posts too. You’re very clever: all those views and the daily page count didn’t increase even by one!
Bummer! Views stats are very hit and miss. Comments are much better. I love some of your musical choices so that’s always a good start.
I’m not sure what we can rely on with WordPress any more, especially in the ways they keep ‘improving’ our experience with them. I’m pleased some of my music hits the spot for you. Sunday music has recently become a regular for me, and you’ll see the longer running one tomorrow 😊
I shall look forward to it Clive.
Love both your choices I nearly used Me and you and a dog named boo! I thought you do Maggie by Rod Stuart?
I’ve done it before so went with Boo today which is the one I had in mind when I originally mentioned my suggestion to Jim.
I’m not a fan of Elaine Page, but this performance was awesome and the end of it always makes me reach for the tissues.
Yes indeed a beautiful performance 😌
You must be very talented to work that out in your head 😊
Thank you. It is a natural gift and I am very lucky to have it. It’s not in the right key as I play mostly in F# (the black notes), but I can knock out a familiar melody with the right hand and make up my own accompaniment with the left.
I used Boo too! Post coming up in 40 minutes 🙂
It’s a good song and doesn’t get a lot of air play.
I am always happy to use your suggestions Di and I love the songs that you selected for today. I just did a post about Lobo last week, but on a different song. There is nothing better than going on an adventure and bringing your dog along with you.
Maggie was probably one of the most traveled dogs in the UK as she clocked up 30,000 when we were house hunting before she was 2!
A great song and one I remember hearing – a lot!!
