Today is Saturday 30th July

It has been raining but not enough to replenish our water butts. It’s nice and cool though and we walked up into town wearing our bat capes.

We bought them years ago when we were in the cottage and they are a godsend as not bulky but large enough and long enough to keep us dry to our knees.
I have to confess it is the worst walk we’ve had with Maya for weeks. She has been so good lately, even to walking round the estate off lead, but today it all went for a bucket of chalk so for the next few days or so we are back to basics.
We have been expecting this though. She is learning every day, still often distracted, but  things are going into that furry head and rattling around a bit like a pinball machine.
Everything has been reset to zero today, but hopefully it won’t take long for her to remember.

When we got back, we gave her a shower, not as punishment but because she’d sat down in a mucky puddle and her fur was full of grit which will make her itch.  It was not too bad at all and she was quite relaxed sitting there being soaped and lathered. She’s not afraid of the shower head now and when we’d finished, it was a thorough rub down with the towel (a great game for her) and blow dry with the hair dryer.
Now she’ll sleep and when she wakes up, it will be a new day for her so we start again.

Lunch today is chicken curry. I haven’t made one for a while so it will make a pleasant change. I had some naan breads in the freezer so we’ll have those too and if we fancy dessert, I have some melon, ice cream or yogurt.

Take care and keep safe everyone.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

You know what goes best with a chicken curry and bread naan lunch?
Easy to make and adds up a lovely touch to it. Here’s the recipe :

Chicken curry with naan sounds delicious! We are eating leftovers – liver and onions for Sparky (since I can’t have the high cholesterol liver) and I’ll have the leftover spaghetti. We bought a “Lemondrop” melon. Very tasty!

glad maya isnt afraid of the shower head. She seems to be taking things like that in her stride, I hope resetting her behaviour won’t be too hard, each day is a fresh start!

    • After every sleep, it’s a new day for her. We seem to be back on an even keel though so it could just have been a little glitch. We can expect this periodically and just have to come down ‘hard’ on her as it’s not acceptable. She knows when we’re cross with her.
