Our quote today is
” A writer who waits for ideal conditions under which to work will die without putting a word to paper.” K. D. White

Is there ever ideal conditions to write? What is ideal for some is distracting for others. I usually can’t write in silence so there is always background noise of some description, be it a TV (when we had one), music, or Hubby watching a film.
I found writing to my Mum that once I got started, I’d keep going and before long there was a mini book on what we’d been doing since my last letter. I miss that.
Writing for me has always been an outlet, but time these days is the major factor.
I wrote five Hello cards over the weekend, but it had taken me a while to get the cards ready as they were all pictures of Maya, so that had to be done first. Making cards is time consuming and a puzzle putting everything back in the boxes they came out of!

Writing my blog posts, I do my 3TC in batches and schedule them. I prepare them in draft form first, then copy them over. Day to day is all dependent on when I access my blog and if we’ve been busy or had appointments.

It’s an interesting quote though, and no doubt once conditions were ideal for what the writer had intended, maybe inspiration wouldn’t come anyway. Personally, I think writing works when it’s ‘off the cuff’ and then tweaked.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Nope, Not Pam says:

I think you put yourself under too much pressure if you look for an ideal setting. I tend to just sit down and start writing, I don’t have time to procrastinate

  2. Carol anne says:

I prefer to write spontaneously. I think its more authentic. Xx

  3. murisopsis says:

I write when the mood strikes me. I generally have 2 to 3 posts scheduled as a buffer for those times that I can’t think of anything to say (rare) or have been so busy that I have to skip writing (a frequent happenstance)…

  4. Sadje says:

I don’t think that beyond the basic requirements, there is an ideal setting for writing.

  5. That’s very true about writing being off the cuff.
