A Slit in Time

Through this portal to the outside world,
I watched for My Love to come from a distant place,
Seasons come and go,
Constant changes of colour
And the craziness of the skies.
I see the miracle of birth,
Share every life and cry when they die,
Leaving me alone.
I become acute to birdsong,
The call of the night owl,
The lament of the nightingale,
And the echo of the lark.
Day or night,
Predators search for food to feed their young,
Constant, vigilant, determined,
But My Love did not come.
The water’s expanse swells and retreats,
Signifying the rising of hope,
And the ebb of loss.
I hide behind these stone walls,
As cold and as hard
As my heart became with each passing year,
My body just a vapour on the wind,
Time for me has run out.
Through sunrise to sunset,
Witness to each new moon
Blossom and wane,
The question always lingered,
Why did he not come.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Palpable longing and disappointment… well done!

  4. There is a profound sadness. Based on how you talk about your younger years it sounds like what you must have felt back then. Luckily, as you got older you were able to find happiness.

I hide behind these stone walls,

This is beautiful, Di. It had an ethereal element to it, the watching and waiting. Thank you so much for joining in with the #writephoto challenge. KL ❀
