Today is Monday 20th June

It’s 3 o’clock on the afternoon and it’s another hot one.
We’ve had a busy morning insomuch as Hubby has built the gates and then just need to be painted and hung (but not necessarily in that order) and while he was doing that I took our neighbour to a doctor’s appointment.

But the highlight of the day has to be our walk this morning.
We took Maya up to the prom and were quite early, so there were few people about.
In fact before long, we had the entire prom to ourselves and decided to take full advantage by letting her off the lead. This is a first other than at doggy class, but there were no distractions so we thought why not let her have some freedom.

Photos:  left April on the prom, right May in our back garden.

She went trotting off then realised there was no restrictions so ran away! We called her name, she stopped dead, turned round and came straight back to us when we held our arms out, the same signal we used for Maggie.
This is a momentous occasion for us (OK, she might not do it tomorrow!), so she had lots of fuss and praise, plus treats, and was encouraged to go off and explore some more.
She was brilliant and when people started to arrive, we called her back to put her lead on.  The rest of the walk was OK, though she did pull a little.
The second walk after lunch was very good too. There was a dog at the end of our road so I let them go first. Maya tugged a bit to see where they were going, then she was fine.
I gave her some slack to sniff the grass and she rewarded me so I cleared up, walked back to the bin, then we continued on our way.

Keep safe everyone.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

She is a beautiful dog, love the name “Maya”. It’s rewarding when there is trusting on both sides. You are a good teacher!

    • Thank you. We try but sometimes although it ‘goes in’ at the time, once she’s had a sleep, she’s forgotten! Still, she’s only a pup, and because of her size, we tend to forget that.

Well done, she’s come so far, you must be very proud

I’m very impressed! Maya has learned the recall and does it well – you have done a great job of training (and she’s so smart, and strong and pretty too)!

    • We are working on recall and were lucky yesterday as there is nowhere we consider safe where we can let her off other than the training field on Sundays. It’s early days, but it’s a start!
