Hi, Jones here.
I’m the neighbourhood security.
People don’t take much notice of me. Afterall, what’s unusual about a cat walking the streets? It’s not as if I have to have a human attached on a cord as do my canine counterparts.
I see a lot more than you might imagine.
I know which houses are unoccupied, who is dallying with whom, where the best tips are and places to avoid.
Rats are in abundance at the takeaway. The owners don’t clear away their trash and food wastages sensibly so it’s a free-for-all after closing time. Some are getting braver and venturing inside the premises. The Chef’s Special has an interesting hue sometimes.
There are ten of us, and we prowl after dark, keeping in contact with our caterwauling.
What? You thought that was some stud on the make visiting his lady loves on the block?
Nah. It’s our alarm system and causing such a ruckus usually results in someone somewhere turning on lights, coming to the door or even venturing outside to see what’s going on.Β OK, some of us may end up having an unwelcome bath, but it works and usually crime is stopped in its tracks.
Uh-oh. Someone’s going into number 9 and I know they don’t live there.
That bulge in his pocket doesn’t look kosher. Think I’ll caul for reinforcements before taking a look. Sid’s up the road and he’s mates with the German Shepherd doing the rounds with the latest canine unit.
This is wonderful, I love the caterwauling. We must have a lot of issues in my area π
