The day has started bright and sunny. We have nowhere to be and nothing on the calendar so have a free day! Hurrah.
We might walk up into town this morning to give Maya some more exposure to people and traffic. It will be the furthest we’ve walked her in any one go and we will need to rest up once we get there, so hopefully we can either sit outside and have a cup of coffee or go into one of the cafes where dogs are allowed. That is one thing that’s nice about our town, there are several places you can do that as well as some of the shops.
A little while ago, it was announced that one particular retailer was now allowing dogs into their stores other than guide or assistant dogs. We’ve taken Maya in on several occasions and the staff have come to know her. She is usually well behaved and there are a couple of aisles with notices to say no dogs which is fair enough. She knows where the pet food aisle is though and where to poke her nose. We were in a different town and wanted something from this chain but there were no notices up about dogs so I went in to ask.
‘Only if you can carry it,’ the assistant said, so laughing, I pointed to Maya outside and said ‘Fat chance.’
They didn’t have what I wanted anyway, but are running down their stock as they are closing at the end of this month due to cutbacks. To be honest, in all the years we have been in there, it has been extremely rare they actually had what I was looking for, and this ranged from dog biscuits and chews to their own brand of toothpaste and bandages.
