Today is Monday 23rd May

It was an early start with Maya getting me up at 5 am to go out, but at least she went back to bed for almost an hour. Hubby got up at 6 and took over, then I went back to sleep. She’s had two walks so far today and lying asleep at my feet.
Photo 22nd May:
our settees are three seaters and she was taking up the space of 2/3 of it.

Blood test for me today as they are following up on my sugars, calcium levels and cholesterol.  I should get the results in a few days, and have another test in three months.
I expect my sugar not to have reduced because I have simply replaced the grapes with other soft fruit though the diabetes nurse told me they were better for me. I think I am seriously going to have to review my fruit intake, not just for the monetary side, but I’m eating too much and need more syn free variety in my diet.

Lunch today was a BLT for me as our neighbour gave me a little gem lettuce freshly picked from her garden this morning, and Hubby had a pizza slice with some hash browns and chopped bacon on top. Hurrah, something else to add to his food list.
Tomorrow I am doing jacket potatoes with ‘gunge’, a cheese sauce with ham (aka spam this time) and mushrooms. We haven’t it for ages, and I bought two suitable potatoes today. It’s pointless buying more or a large bag to save money as we don’t eat a lot of potatoes now and they just go green and sprout in the veg rack. We should have some of our own later in the year though.

Take care and keep safe everyone.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I like fruit too and tend to eat too much of it. Our last bag of potatoes went “sprouty.” Had to toss. At least for the summer, we’ll buy the potatoes separately rather than a bag. There are so many other great veggies to eat then. We picked up corn on the cob today.

I don’t find fruit a problem with my diabetes, though potatoes do me in every time 🙄

I hope the tests come back with good news! Maya is getting to be one big dog! I hope she is getting better on the leash….
