E.M.’s Sunday Ramble Prompt #24

Thanks Amy for picking up on my suggestion of memories for a ramble.

Here are the questions:

  1. What is your first good memory from your childhood? (If this is a trigger question for you, tell me how your day is and what the best thing is about today.)
  2. Name 3 things that you loved when you were just a youngster?
  3. What did you dislike, or even hate, when you were growing up?
  4. If you could go give your younger self one piece of advice, what would you tell them?
  5. What kind of celebrations did you enjoy when you were little, and do you still like those celebrations now that you are grown?
  6. Bonus Question: What commercial did you always wait for to come on television as a child? (If you didn’t like commercials or television, what event did you wait for to come about when you were a kid?

Here are my answers:

  1. What is your first good memory from your childhood? (If this is a trigger question for you, tell me how your day is and what the best thing is about today.)
I have a lot of good memories from my childhood, but I guess maybe the one that has stuck in my mind the most was getting a letter from Santa under the tree instead of a parcel. You can read about it here
  2. Name 3 things that you loved when you were just a youngster?
Playing duets on the piano with my Dad, making tents in the garden using Mum’s clothes horse, choir practice on a Tuesday evening.
  3. What did you dislike, or even hate, when you were growing up?
Spiders (still do), school liver, and dusting to earn my pocket money.
  4. If you could go give your younger self one piece of advice, what would you tell them?
Don’t marry the first guy, and don’t live with the second.
  5. What kind of celebrations did you enjoy when you were little, and do you still like those celebrations now that you are grown?
Birthday parties were always great, with fruit and jelly in waxed dishes, cake, sausage rolls and lemonade. We’d have party games (with forfeits) and everyone went home with a goody bag. Our parties were talked about for weeks. No birthday parties (or parties of any description actually) now, but I still have a birthday cake.
  6. Bonus Question: What commercial did you always wait for to come on television as a child? (If you didn’t like commercials or television, what event did you wait for to come about when you were a kid?
Best commercials were always the Cadbury’s Smash Men.

They eat a great many of these. First they peel them with their little knives, then boil them for twenty of their minutes, then they smash them all to bits!

Second choice would be the PGTips chimps.

Thanks again for the nod. Have a great week.

I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Your birthday parties sounded so fun! I never got a party, but I did get cake and presents for my birthday. I always love cake 🙂 Thanks for joining in and rambling with me, and I liked the commercials.

I love the memories!! I was 7 when I got my first bike – bright blue at Christmas. It was so big that I couldn’t sit on the seat and reach the pedals!!!
