The day is dull and overcast, but still warm. I hope that doesn’t mean more thunderstorms or rain later as I want to get out and cut the grass.
I’ve been up a while, but Hubby is still in bed. Maya has been fed and I’ve had a cuppa but no breakfast yet.
The calendar is clear but I think we may well be ordering the panels for the new gates today. They will have to specially made as we are going up two feet, but they’re reasonably priced and Hubby can fit them himself. We’ll need meatier posts too as they will be heavier, but this is a job that needs to be done sooner rather than later.
When we lived in Poole, Barney had a kennel outside while we were at work and was content to sit at the gate and watch the world go by. Hubby had used a six foot trellis panel which he covered with mesh and reinforced diagonally. It worked really well, especially if Mum came to puppysit when we were house hunting as if the doorbell rang, she could go out of the back door and talk to whoever it was through the gate. Barney would sit by her side, and she felt safe.
One day we had some canvassers in the road for local elections, but the guy who came to our house wasn’t the candidate. He stank of alcohol, and as we chatted through the gate, he leaned forward and Barney growled. This was so unlike him, but he got closer to the gate and in no uncertain terms ‘suggested’ the guy was not welcome!
A similar idea wouldn’t work here as we are too exposed, the gap is about sixteen feet,
and should Maya see something and charge the gates, we would have one escaped dog and a pile of matchsticks.
The plan is to do something similar to what we have now, just higher.
It is a very wide expanse, what about a wrought iron fence. They’re very popular here in Australia
Too expensive for our budget as we would be looking at least £1500 as they would have to be made to measure. Our neighbours have lovely gates like that and they were over £1000 15 years ago.
It’s a lot cheaper here 😟
To be honest, most things are cheaper everywhere else. The UK is getting ridiculously expensive to live, let alone purchase ‘luxuries’ such as panel fencing gates.
Australia has its moments, food and petrol are getting out of hand. Where I work people are quitting cos they can’t afford the petrol to come 🙁
I can believe that. Fuel here is around £1.80 a litre for diesel and food prices are going through the roof, not to mention the recent horrendous hike in energy bills.
Hope you can get the panels – since the fiasco of the shed… I’ve got my fingers crossed! Good luck!
It’s a local firm and they make them so it shouldn’t be too long a wait (I hope)
