KL’s photoprompt this week reminds me of our days on the boat and the swans that would come alongside us showing off their cygnets as they were growing up.
Her picture below could well have been taken on one of our journeys up river as we had swans visit us there too. .
For visually challenged writers, the image shows two large swans and 3 smaller swans all swimming together.
My Mum loved swans and when my Dad died in 1996, my brother, sister and I clubbed together to adopt a swan for her. She named it Henry after my Dad and was looking forward to hearing about it as it grew up, took a mate and produced offspring. Sadly, there was no trace of it after that first year and all she ever received was their newsletter.
She was bitterly disappointed, so it was wonderful that we had our own swans in the marina and could provide photos via emails to my sister as to how many eggs, hatchings and survivors in due course.
Swans on the marina 2015 and 2016

How cool you had so many swans! I love swans! xo
Broods of between 5 and 7 though no all survived. We understand broods of ducklings are in the park, but the crows and seagulls are picking them off. So sad. We haven’t been in for ages because Maya ate goose poo and it was not nice getting it out of her gob!
Funny you mention about adopting a swan. One year we adopted a wolf. Never heard from the program once we sent the money in and we got the poster.
This was quite a popular thing with good reports. Sadly it could have been just one of those things, but I was glad we could send Mum details of our own swans, and more often.
Yes, that was nice.
she loved it anyway
That’s really sweet, must be wonderful to watch them grow 😊
It was and they seemed to know Maggie wasn’t a threat which is why they came so close. We never fed them, but it was wonderful to open the blinds and see them there,
What a beautiful present ❤️💜💜
It was such a shame Mum never heard anything other than that single newsletter. Still, we had plenty to write to her about so I think it more than made up for it. It’s her birthday tomorrow and she would have been 100.
Bless her 💜
This is so beautiful. Lovely cheerful images. What a wonderful present, I didn’t realise you could do that. Thank you so much for joining in with #writephoto. KL ❤
You’re welcome. Glad you liked my contribution.
