Five Things Tuesday: 5 Fave Healthy Foods

Yeah, I know it’s Wednesday, but I like this challenge.

The Internet is full of advice about what food is healthy and what food will rot our teeth and our brains. In an attempt to live longer healthier lives and to avoid falling prey to pandemics you might be trying to eat healthier. Health foods or healthy foods do not always have to be the less tasty option. Thankfully there are several that are good for you and miraculously taste nice too. Today I ask you to list five of your favourites.

Since joining SW in 2016 and losing almost 3 stones in weight, I have come to appreciate food more and changed my eating habits considerably. Eating healthily is always on my mind, but I still have the naughty stuff like biscuits, ice creams, chocolate, cakes etc etc, just not so often or so much!

I have never eaten so much fruit in my life, and as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and grapes are now available all year, these are my favourite fruits to buy.

Since we started growing our own veg in the cottage, runner beans, tomatoes and onions were always in abundance, and last year we had success with cabbages, cauliflower and swede. Add to that mushrooms and beetroot, that’s a group of my favourites too.

I like yogurt, preferring a fat free vanilla option at the moment as I’ve found the fruit varieties too sweet for me, and that’s odd as I have a really sweet tooth!

Breakfast cereals I like are granola or fruit and fibre, though I add extra fruit anyway.

I don’t eat a lot of bread, but do enjoy granary or multigrain, especially when it’s still warm! Sadly Hubby can’t eat either so I don’t buy it unless I can get a single roll and then I really treat myself!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Love your healthy choices. I’m also so glad that growing your own veg is so rewarding.

    • We started growing our own when we were in the cottage and always had a good yield. We also had chickens for a while and there’s nothing like fresh eggs. The soil here is clay based, so success is very hit and miss.
