This week Sadje asks
Did you make a special effort to celebrate Mother’s Day with your mom? Did you take her out for a celebration meal or gave her gifts?
We celebrate Mothering Sunday in March here in the UK, so as my brother is in NZ and they celebrate in May, Mum used to get two special days!
I lost my Mum in January 2018. She would have been 100 years old this month.
I always used to celebrate Mother’s Day with a card and flowers, a small gift or a meal out when we were local.
I tried to treat both Mums the same, catering to their personal tastes and individuality, but MIL was difficult to please. Therefore taking them both to a local carvery for a celebratory meal after my FIL died was a safe option because the Mums chose what they wanted from the selection available.
It was usually a pleasant outing once we ignored MIL criticizing everything as the food was always good and reasonably priced. My Mum always enjoyed it and I have a fond memory of she and I wrapping our faces round a knickerbocker glory whilst Hubby had his treacle pudding with bottomless custard much to the disgust of MIL who settled for her apple pie and cream then left most of it because her eyes were too big for her belly.
These days I light a candle for my Mum on Mothering Sunday in March, another for her birthday, and one for each of my parents on their wedding anniversary in August.
💜💜💜💜
My sisters both dressed in bright yellow – my mother’s favorite color! I just wore her wedding band and her Claddagh pin…
Lovely way to celebrate Mothers Day.
Lovely gesture to take both the mums out on Mother’s Day. You can but try and it’s not possible to please everyone. Thanks for sharing Di
You’re welcome.
