Throwback Thursday – April 7 – #33 – Going to the Movies

Lauren is our hostess this week and her choice of topic is going to the movies.
Do you remember specific times you went to indoor movies or drive in theatres? Do you remember the first time for either? Do you remember going with friends and not parents?

I’ve never been to a drive in movie or theatre.
My Dad took me to see The Wizard of Oz as he felt every child should see it on the big screen. I was about 10 I think and it was just him and me. I loved it!
For years, Boxing Day would see us go as a family to the pictures on the bus to see the latest blockbuster. I can remember Digby, The Biggest Dog in the World, and Jaws.
I went to see the Sound of Music with a friend, and have actually seen it about 7 times, not once on TV though.
A neighbour and I went to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and were the only adults in the audience. I also went to see Dumbo and cried my heart out.
Lethal Weapon 3 has distinct memories as Hubby and I had a major disagreement once and he went out for hours. The following day I did the same, and it turned out we’d both gone to see the same film! We got a video copy to remind us.
I think the last movie we saw in the cinema was Terminator 3, Rise of The Machines. Hubby can’t sit through a long film now so we usually wait until it’s available to buy on DVD. These days though not very much appeals.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Thanks for joining in Di. I can’t go to the theatre so it’s DVD for me too. That’s a bit funny that you both chose the same get away. Back when I could go to the movies, before grandbabies came along, my spouse and I would go to the movies on Christmas day. It is not our holiday so it made great sense.

Hehe! My first date with Sparky was to see the movie “Bambi” on the big screen – we both bawled our eyes out. I only had one partially used Kleenex in my pocket!! When the lights came on at the end, we were both looking red-eyes and moist from tears… I thought I’d look ugly and he thought I’d think he was a wimp. Turns out I appreciated a guy who could acknowledge his emotions and he thought I was beautiful – the rest is history.
