After breakfast, we decided to take Maya up on the prom for her walk. My feet are still tender, but I am trying to walk at least twice a day as exercise helps as well as the cold compress.
It’s the first time we’ve both walked her for about a week and we took an extra lead so that we could let her explore the field that runs behind it. We intend to use that for recall training at a later date when there’s no-one else around. Our plan will be to use the long training lead with one of us at each end and Maya on a running lead in between. However, for today, we were concentrating on lead work, socialising with people and dogs alike, and also introducing her to heights as the sea defense wall that runs alongside the beach is quite high, definitely too high for her to jump down from. She has shown a fascination for walls (as Maggie did always wanting to peer over the top) so today Hubby walked with her a little way on the wall, walked back and then sat on the wall with her.
It has become automatic (well, 90% of the time) for her to sit when we stop, so she looked quite impressive watching people approach. One couple asked if they could take her picture and she was so good for that. She did get over excited at one stage so we made her sit and wait, then as there was no-one around, she was able to focus on us and how we wanted her to respond.
Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, our walk today was a good high end 8.
This is the beginning of ‘The Wall’ and the prom dips down as you can see better in the picture on the right.
