The month is in double figures and running away with us.
We’ve had a busy morning insomuch as trying to get the last of my prescription filled (waiting for our dispensing nurse at the surgery to call me with an alternative as supplies are unavailable). Luckily it is not pills and something non-urgent.
Maya had a pretty good night, getting me up at 3 for wees and poos, then we ended up crashing out in the lounge until 6.
We’ve had a walk this morning too and she’s met some more of our friends plus a young Mum with a border collie called Lottie. No growls or barks from either so another positive encounter.
After getting in something for lunch (ready meals from the freezer department) Hubby has been out in the garden this morning filling in our flower bed. We have done our best to collect up all the loose stones we can but still have to watch Maya like a hawk. She’s so damn quick! Anyway, he has filled it in with grass turfs from in front of the greenhouse, covered it with mesh, seeded it and added some top soil so we hope she’ll leave it alone. She assisted him by running off with his pliers and attacking the hoe shaft.
While dinner was cooking, I made up a batch of plain scones, something Hubby can have to nibble on for a couple of days. Rubbing the fat into the flour was painful though because my arthritis has got considerably worse in the fingers on my right hand, but the end result is nice and light.
All being well though, we should have a quiet afternoon and relaxing evening.
Take care and keep safe everyone.
I have always wanted to make scones but the recipes here make it feel like a lot of work.
Mine today were simply 8 spoons flour, about 100g fat, three spoons sugar and an egg. I rubbed the fat into the flour, added the sugar and end, kneaded it together into a sausage, then broke pieces off, rounded them up, and put them on a greased baking tray. Cook for 25-30 minutes at 180 C. You can add sultanas if you like. I don’t actually weigh anything, and these are more like rough cakes.
Thank you! I think I could try these. What kind of fat do you use?
I use a cheap margarine, so nothing special. Fine breadcrumbs are the key and you’ll know by feel if you’ve got too much (greasy) or too little (dry) fat so can adjust the flour/fat accordingly.
Thank you!
Let me know how they turn out.
I will.
The quickest way to a man’s heart is good food.
And my heart LOVES Scones. 😍
Enjoy!!
I want a scone now! Mmm! Yum!
I only made 9 and there are two left! One for you by proxy!!
