It’s 4pm and been one of ‘those days’.
It started well though with Maya not wanting to go out until 5am, which is more or less Hubby’s usual getting up time. She has been mostly good today…………….So, she has been with us a week and thus far we have:
definite ‘tells’ when she wants to go out,
acceptance of grooming and ear cleaning,
pretty good nights,
learning the word No,
good in the car,
meeting a few of the local canine residents including a doberman, shih tzu and yorkshire terrier as well as Kela this morning. Not bad at all actually.
We started lead work training today, Hubby having watched an impressive video of a professional handler. We applied the same routine, a couple of steps forward, keeping her on our left, then stopping and reward when she stayed in position and didn’t pull.
She is a strong puppy and so the sooner we get this under our belts, the better. We want her to associate the lead with nice things like walks and treats.
Hubby has been working out in the garden to define our veg areas so that they will be easier to fence/net off when we start to grow anything. She is into mud pies and running off with stones which we have to retrieve in case she swallows them.
The worming pill has produced nothing in her motions so I take that as a good sign. Her appetite is good and we are trying to keep to evenly spaced mealtimes. She’s chewing on a hide chew at the moment, though we have been told that antlers are good for teething puppies.
Our breeder sent me the online details for her food and we shall have two sacks delivered in the next few days. Price wise it is on a par with what we were feeding Maggie, however, Maya will eat a lot more but I can budget accordingly. We want to give her the best start rather than try and save a few pounds.
