Sunday Poser #68

This week Sadje asks
How security conscious are you? Have you been hacked or your cards misused?

In answer to the last two parts of Sadje’s question today, so far I have been lucky and the only computer issue has been a virus rather than hacking.

As to personal security,ย  both of us are aware of what is going on around us, a case of ‘What is wrong with this picture?’ and if we’re out for a walk and likely to meet up with groups of people we don’t know, we like to have more than one ‘exit’ available to us.
With Hubby being ex-security, old habits die hard and some have rubbed off on me.

We try not to use cashpoint (ATMs) machines in the High Street, preferring to get cashback from a supermarket or actually go into a bank.
Door are locked, as are cars and outbuildings, and valuables not visible on our person.
When sitting in traffic or in a car park, the car doors are locked.
If at all possible, I don’t carry a handbag when we’re out,ย  and years ago when we went abroad on holiday, it was under my coat, not over my shoulder.
We were aware of being targeted and followed once, so constantly stopped to look in shop windows or go into shops to change direction. That actually unnerved me, but made me more aware. You might remember this post

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

My daughter lives in Manhattan and we were just talking about safety. She has a lot of common sense regarding how she goes about the task of living in the city, but still…I’m VenMo’ing her money to get a special keyfob device that lets out a screeching loud sound when the button is pushed, that and a small thumb sized device similar to a switchblade mechanism to also attach to her key chain. An APP that lets her know about crimes reported in her vicinity is one of the favorite things I think she has on her cell phone, odd maybe, but smart no matter where you live!

You cant be too safe these days. I did not mention it in my answer to sadje’s question, but I have CCTV and a house alarm on my house. Xx

  3. My wallet was stolen out of my pocketbook on New Years Day. I had one of the backpack type with a zipper and all I can think is that the zipper was a little bit open. I have no idea. It was awful though.

Thanks for sharing Di. Being careful and aware is there right way to go. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

I’ve often thought of going purse-less, but I need so many things in there.
