The sun is shining, it’s a breezy day and the second wash load is on. Life is so exciting here on the East Coast!
The plan after that’s out on the line is to walk up into town for Puffed Wheat. Now we may be well puffed by the time we get there, but Hubby fancied some yesterday and we think it is something else he may be able to tolerate as we are going for the Non-sugared variety. We shall indeed see.
I have just noticed I can include Fandango’s daily word challenge today which is OPINION!
We have been reading up on this £200 ‘energy relief’ our government is giving all households in October, which will be repaid at £40 p.a. as from April 2023. Consumers have no choice. This is going to happen and all households will be charged with this £40 ‘levy’ regardless. So, if anyone who is not paying energy bills at the moment buys a house in the next couple of years or so, they will be repaying the government for something they didn’t actually have in the first place.
My concern is if our energy supplier gives us a rebate for having a substantial credit balance as we are considered ‘low energy users’ and even they admitted that we were one of the lowest consumers they had. Also, we got in quick with a fixed tariff until October 2023 so our bills will be at sensible rates, not the inflated greedy ones. This was extracted from our bill in January 2020, and 2019 was a COLD winter.
The other thing to consider is VAT. Will this £40 be subject to VAT and if so Mr Chancellor will get £2 extra per household every year for his kitty. Can you hear him laughing at us?
To be honest, I’d rather not have it. However, IF our supplier does give us a refund for a credit balance, this £40 will throw my budget out of the window so my intention is to make a one off payment for that amount each April so at least I’LL know what I’m doing!
Want another laugh? It has been mentioned in the media that the government are considering plans to export our surplus energy to Europe. Yeah…… they are only just managing to meet demand now, but the same Think Tank is suggesting consumers reduce their energy usage between 9 and 11 am and 4.30 and 6.30pm……………. so that they can give it away?????
Lunatics and asylum come to mind……..
Hi Di, I got loads of washing done yesterday, two fleece sheets, two double fleece duvets four fleece pillowcases, plus towels and ordinary washing! All dry, hope you are as lucky today!
I like puffed wheat too plus I loved the honey ones….would not eat them now!
Yes I agree with you about the £200 loan …they are doing no one any favours as you say it’s per household not per person so it really looks fraught with problems ! As for exporting power….. robbing Peter to pay Pablo springs to mind!!? Have a good day 💜
Thanks Willow. We had no joy getting puffed wheat (honeyed only) so will have to look elsewhere. We did get all the washing dry outside though so everything smells really fresh.
Nothing better than laundry dried outside is there 💜
nope. Can’t beat it
As an educated adult I understand what it means to give “energy” to other countries but in my “normal” everyday mind, it makes no sense to me. How is it “transported”? What does it look like?
I don’t know either. I’ve seen huge gas canisters on rolling stock and power cables I believe are now being run underground rather than on huge pylons.
Gah! It is madness!!
Not likely to improve either by the looks of things.
