Today is Thursday 27th January

The sun is shining, it’s really pleasant outside and Hubby is digging the garden.
My plans are to get the card kit out and make some Hello cards later.
Lunch is sussed, rice and my sweet ginger and pineapple sauce. No fuss.

Are you afraid of the tax man?
Over the years, any dealings I have had with the tax office have found them helpful and obliging. It was the same this morning and once I’d got past about ten minutes of recorded referrals to the website and multiple options, I was eventually put through to a lovely lady who was absolutely wonderful.

I have had confirmation of my State Pension as from May (hurrah!) and there is an option to transfer ten per cent of my personal tax allowance to Hubby. By doing so, it will take him out of the tax bracket, and if my current works pension isn’t reduced as I expect it to be, my tax for the year would be less than £100 after the adjustment.
Had Hubby paid any income tax over the past four years (joke as our joint income is well below the current threshold LOL), this could have been backdated and done over the phone generating a refund, but as it is to come into effect from the financial year 2022/23, I have to ring again in April.  This isn’t a problem though and will take just a couple of minutes as everything is in place.  Even better is that this will remain in force unless our circumstances change so I don’t have to renew it every year.
Isn’t it nice to know you can still talk to a human being!

Have a good day and keep safe everyone.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I am so pleased for you that you resolved all of this so quickly. My poor elderly aunt has a dreadful time with the tax officials here in South Africa. I have taken over her tax now and do it for her.

    • Glad you can help your Aunt out Robbie. The lady I spoke to today was great and when I call back in April it should only take a few minutes to get the allowance switched.

Hurrah! Nice that the lady was so good and pleasant to deal with, thats what you want! xo

So good to hear that there is a real person on the line!

Always nice to get to the end of a discussion with the tax folk. It sounds like you had a good soul on the other end of that line, Di 😃

  5. Hi Di…I want to relocate. 🙂 In my portion of USA, we’re expecting a massive snowstorm this weekend. Oh, fun NOT. As for taxes, I think to file online there’s about to be some new requirements. It may be that two-finger authentication. Always change, Ugh!

    • We’re given tax codes and unless self employed, don’t have to do tax returns. I did the books for ex partner and Hubby when he was self employed for a while and the tax office were always helpful. The lady today was great.

  6. After weeks of getting hung up on by a recorded message, I finally got through a human. I was giddy about finally getting through and thanked her profusely. It’s a crazy world out there.
