EM Kingston is our hostess for the Sunday Ramble.
This week’s topic is “Cars and Driving“.
Here are the questions:
- We all had a first car. What year, make, and model was your first car?
I passed my test first time on February 15th 1978. My first car was a blue 1965 Mini. It cost me £100 and the engine failed after about three months. It was the last time I bought anything from ‘a friend’.
- If you won the lottery, would you buy your dream car and what kind would it be? If you do not care to talk about cars, how would you spend your lottery money?
No, I would not buy a car as it would put thousands of pounds in someone else’s pocket and cost a bomb to run to satisfy the government. Depending on the amount won would determine whether we bought a different house or emigrate.
- The Transporter (hauling other people and going from point A to point B), Gone in 60 Seconds (fast!), or Driving Miss Daisy (Slow)? (This would be examples of your driving style.)
All good films actually, and so is the Fast and Furious franchise.
Hubby once put a notice on the back of his car for the Must-Gets who were forever close on his bumper that read ‘The closer you get, the slower I go’. We called it ‘Pootle mode’ as we will not be rushed, especially when we are making good progress and not holding up traffic. However, we can put our foot to the floor in an emergency if need be. Most times, we are within the speed limits, and I like to think proficient, capable and considerate drivers. - Which is your preference to drive on: Interstate, Freeways, or Back Roads?
Our main roads here in Lincolnshire are abysmal. We do not have pot holes, we have potential canyons. There are always roadworks somewhere, and local knowledge of back roads comes in handy. We are not fans of motorway driving.
- Pick your favorite famous car on television.
The Batmobile.
Haha! I love the sign your hubby put up! I need to have one similar!!
He got so fed up of drivers riding his bumper.
Awesome to read about your cars Di! And your driving style! ❤
Thanks!
Hey Di! I always enjoy reading your answers 😀 Great sign by hubby! In California, people would take that as a challenge and maybe bump draft you guys because California drivers are crazy. It’s why I developed road rage 😀 I had heard that about Minis back in the day. I am not sure if the new Minis are like that with the engine problems, but I know that was kind of the norm back in the day. A great choice for the famous car! I had forgotten about the Batmobile! I love the Fast Franchise movies as well. I have been watching the bickering going on between the Rock and Vin Diesel. It’s been amusing lol. Thanks for rambling with me!
New minis are a lot bigger than the originals. In fact, I did a post on that

One of my ex-husbands friends has an older Mini with the British Flag on it. I think it was like the first one in your mini haha post. He could nearly park it on a sidewalk *giggles*
sounds about right. You need to watch the original Italian Job with Michael Caine to get an idea of how nippy they could be. The remake wasn’t half as good.
I’ll have to find it and watch it. I did like the remake, so I can imagine the original will be more exciting.
I think it’s better, but then I’m OLD!!!!!
😁
