Opposing Forces – Saturday Mix, 18 December 2021

Sarah is our hostess for the Saturday Mix challenges. Nip over to her blog and find out more here

This week we are dipping our toes into the pool of OPPOSITES. Our challenge is all about “opposing forces” and the use of antithesis in our writing. You will need to use the two opposing words in your response – which can be poetry or prose.

Our words this week are:

– lower and raise

– celebrate and mourn

This is the Twin Sails lifting bridge in Poole. It is a secondary bridge to reduce traffic across the original which as a child, I saw lower but never raise!

There will be several people in our road on their own for the first time this Christmas.
Although funerals can be a sad affair as they mourn the loss of their loved one, many chose to celebrate the life of the departed.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Last year when I was tutoring a young boy I found out he had never seen a drawbridge. In Connecticut, as it is in many US states, I would think, drawbridges are not common as the rivers are too shallow for large boats anyhow. I had been out with the dog one day when I heard the siren and was able to video the whole thing. He was amazed to see the road break apart like it did! Funny how we take certain things as “normal” when they really might not be.
