The horns of the hunt echoed across the snow.
The horns of the hunt echoed across the snow.
There was no escape and he was tiring quickly.
The light up ahead appeared out of nowhere, white and clear, beckoning to him.
With new found hope and energy, his aching limbs launched themselves forward.
The sounds behind him diminished as he was embraced by the light.
It was warm and soothing, and he felt his body swoon into a welcome slumber.
When he awoke, it was to subtle light and solitude. There was a gentleness in the air and when he peered outside of the window, the forest had disappeared.
He knew not where he was, but at that moment wasn’t really worried, just glad to be away from the hunt, the snarling dogs and laughing humans taking pleasure in his flight of terror.
A panel opened, slipping food and water into the room. He ate and drank gratefully, then slept some more.
On awakening, his surroundings had changed. No longer was he in a room, but a den similar to his own……………. but not.
A vixen entered and sat down, wrapping her glorious tail around her.
‘Have I died?’ he asked.
‘Not exactly,’ she replied, ‘but this is a heaven of sorts. You’re safe here, we all are.
They saved us. We don’t know who or what They are, or where They came from, but They are gentle souls and bear us no ill. We are no longer pursued and tortured, but free to roam as this is somewhere not of earth as we know it. We call it Sanctuary.’
This reads like the start of a really interesting SciFi story!
It does doesn’t it.
A lovely story Di
Thanks Sadje.
