This is the question Rory aka A Guy Called Bloke asks this week for his 24 hour blog question.
“What do you like about creative writing prompts, and do you feel that they inspire you or tire you?
I do a variety of prompts as well as set the daily Three Things Challenge and alternate Fibbing Friday questions. The latter never ceases to amaze me at the different ‘fibs’ and originality participants come up with.
I enjoy word prompts and photo prompts, though probably a picture will inspire me quicker than a host of words. Saying that, the twelve word challenges are great because the mind does go in different directions trying to piece together a story or a poem using them all.
With a picture, everyone sees something different, and I try to find an angle that might be missed or pick something less obvious in the picture and base my post on that.
I love the quirky ones and pictures that change the longer you look at them.
I do the occasional post on a theme or story telling, again trying to be just a little different from the norm. Sometimes the end result is nothing like I intended it to be!
I don’t do as many prompts as I used to though. I found I was chasing my tail trying to keep up and never mastered amalgamating two or three challenges together like some bloggers can. Regular readers are aware I put out several posts a day, some are prompts, some are mine, and some are just observations or chit chat. I like to read variety and try to provide the same.
Thanks for keeping the 3TC going, Di! When I’m in the mood to do a combo post, I usually include one of the 3TC words as they’re nicely general 🙂
Thanks Paula. Hard to believe I’ve done over 800 now! They still seem popular so I’ll stick with it.
Hey Di.
800 Prompts promoting 3TC or 800 words with 3TC?
800 posts for it Rory. Today was post 810, so that’s 810 days (helps with the streaking which stands at 1409 LOL!). Hope all is well with you.
I enjoy prompts too. You host some fun ones. Prompts get my brain in gear.
That’s what I like, getting ideas and putting them down in print.
I’m never bored and I continually learn things!
Thanks!
