Jingle Jangle

We went shopping today and as I was waiting for Hubby to purchase a gate latch for our neighbour, I tuned into the radio.
It’s December 1st and the Christmas songs were blaring out over the airwaves. I must admit it was nice to hear an orchestrated version of Sleigh Bells, but after the news bulletin (which was the same as two hours and an hour previously, and as it turned out an hour later) they got into the ‘Heavy Stuff’, and quite honestly all that jingling jangled my nerves and I switched off.
When we were on the boat, we would frequent one particular store who only appeared to have the one Christmas tape which drove me nuts, so heaven knows the effect it had on staff. Wizard, Wham and Slade bombarded our eardrums on entry and seemed to boot us up the backside when we left. I think in the three Christmases we were liveaboards the same segment seemed to be playing every time we went.
Don’t get me wrong, I love some of the Christmas music, but in my old age think I prefer choirs singing carols compared to the noise and thumping of popular music.
We don’t seem to have many new or original Christmas songs, and the latest trend is to blend two favourites into one.

I liked this when I first heard it way back in 2013 as it was, finally, something ‘new’.
I like the video with this one too……………… cue Cute!!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Here’s the truth about Christmas. Bear with it, it is brilliant.

  3. My favorite is the Arthur Feidler and the Boston Pops version of Sleigh Ride. I love choir music, too.

    I’m a Christmas stick-in-the-mud: I only like the oldies.

    • Thanks for the link. Popular songs are OK but I can’t cope with the overload and when it is always the same songs, in the same order, I feel like I;m trapped in a time loop!

      • I hear you–it’s the Groundhog Day Effect. There are stores I’ve left because I couldn’t stand the music–too depressed or annoyed to shop. There is one particular Paul McCartney song that is played endlessly during Christmas, that and Jingle Bell Rock, both are ear worms, so not only are you aurally tormented while you are in the store, when you leave, the songs go with you for the rest of the day! Oh no. Now they are playing in my head because I’ve mentioned them to you. No, No, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (LOL)

      • I hate Macca. Never met the man, nor likely to or want to, but I cannot abide him or his music. You might like my Classic Number one carol I posted today

Try the new version of In The Bleak Midwinter released on Classic FM by the Church of England. Straight in at no. 1 and I think pretty neat. And the Elton Ed Sheeran offering isn’t bad..
But I agree the same old same old get v irritating…
