Today is Tuesday 23rd November

It is a beautifully sunny day here, but there is a definite bite on the air.
Plans today are to go for a walk up the road, buy some DIY ‘kitchen’ rolls, and replace my flour. I was going to make Hubby a microwave stodge yesterday but wasn’t happy with the flour which looked grainy when I opened the container. I shone a torch in it and things started to move!! Argh!!!! Weevils.Β  The whole lot went in the bin and our reserve bag followed it. I don’t want them doing the breaststroke in my custard, thank you! Container has been sterilised accordingly.

Lunch today is going to be the second portion of my spag bol, but I am going to do some mashed potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots to go with it.
We are trying to get back into some kind of routine after so many weeks of rushing around with appointments etc. It’s nice to have our time back, but it feels very strange! All being well we can start walking on a regular bass again as that was definitely something that suffered. Bad weather didn’t help, but as long as it’s dry, we can wrap up against the wind as we found our scarves and hats when we were sorting out the cupboards.

What’s on your agenda today? Hope you have a good day. Take care and keep safe.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Do you have a big enough freezer to throw your flour into for 24 hours or so? That freezer has to be very cold though to get the job of killing all the eggs so critters don’t hatch out. (I’ve had it happen to me as well.) I usually take my chances without freezing because I buy my flour in 20-50 lb sacks from a restaurant supply or Mennonite bulk food market.

It is cold but sunny. Today, I’m doing laundry, cooking a 25-pound turkey in my trusty Nesco cooker, and crocheting Christmas gifts. Nice to hear that things are settling down for you. Take care.

    • My freezer has just three drawers, one full of meat, one of veg, and one of anything else. We have no room for anything bigger, or a garage to keep a chest freezer in. No problems though. I shall just have to bake more LOL!

  2. Today Ziggy and I will veg out. It’s ‘pay day’ today and tomorrow the cleaner comes in, so I have to do the pre-clean for the cleaner (sounds odd doesn’t that?) There’ll be a round of bill paying and then Thursday, my plan for a very quiet one on one with Ziggy Thanksgiving. Good plans. It sounds like things are coming together again round your way! I worry about those stupid weevils too, and since I don’t use my flour near fast enough to avoid them, I now just buy a small canister of ‘cake’ flour and sift it if I want to make rolls or something. It usually lasts a bit longer than a whole bag would (even if I sealed it up). Take care and bundle up out there! πŸ™‚

    • I used to bake quite often, but since Hubby had his op in Sept 2020, homemade cakes etc have gone on the back burner. I bought a bag of flour today and that should last us quite a while, which is the problem really. Keep safe ad have lots of Ziggy time.

Yuck! I hate when that happens! I used to buy big 5 pound bags of flour but have started purchasing the 2 pound mini bags to avoid that very problem!
