My American readers will be aware that today is the 58th anniversary of the JFK assassination. Whilst I can remember what I was doing on August 16th 1977 when Elvis Presley died, I was just 7 years old in 1963 and at school.
Our day has been a mixed bag on the weather front following a night of heavy rain. This morning was at least dry, and we had a field trip to replace the throwovers for our settees as the ones we purchased a little while ago were too small to cover them completely and too big to tuck in.
I also did some fruit shopping and sad as it is to convert to old money as I sometimes still do, paid over 13 shillings (66p) for a solitary apple and nearly 14 bob (69p) for a single pear. Two bananas set us back 22p, I got some raspberries reduced to 62p, some red seedless grapes which are part of a price war with one of the discount supermarkets for £1.06, and a honeydew melon cost us 95p.
Coming home, rainbows seemed to be everywhere so I’m not sure if we were chasing them or they were following us!
Photo Dec 2019 on the beach road we came home on today.
We had showers alternating with sunshine and we’d been home about half an hour when the skies opened.
Lunch today was a spaghetti bolognese and I have enough for tomorrow which will either be with a baked potato or I’ll do some mash and have a cottage pie with side veg.
It’s been a good day so far here too but so cold, no rain , last night or today. Hubby walked Ruby this morning while I did the house work. Then I did the ironing while he did all the Christmas cards! I had an appointment with the nurse blood pressure, bloods, weight ect and all looked good. I have walked Ruby twice and she seems okay fingers crossed.
I do agree with you fruit and vegetables are very expensive, even worse when you convert to old money! …why do the things that are good for you cost so much when trash is much cheaper? 💜
Fact of life I’m afraid, so it is any wonder people live on junk food probably because it’s all they can afford.
Glad you bloods etc were good and that Ruby is still enjoying her walks bless her.
Thank you Di 💜💜
I’ve noticed the price on produce has been fluctuating wildly! I got bananas at 49cents/pound last week and this week they are at 69cents/pound. So no bananas! But the pomegranates are on sale still. Three weeks ago we had apples for 50cents/pound and now they are $7.99 for a 3 pound bag!
Crazy.
