WDYS: Castles in the sky

Sadje is our hostess for the What Do You See challenge.
The picture reminded me of something I’d written years ago, so I’m recycling it today with a few tweaks as my response.

For the visually challenged reader, the image shows a castle in the clouds. A surreal image created by the clouds that surround it.

I wonder if you are missing me,
Who I am or was meant to be.
But times have changed and now I’ll find
I’m probably the furthest from your mind.
I guess I sometimes fleetingly rise
To the surface behind your eyes,
As something triggers a memory
From long ago, that included me.
Things we shared, the plans we made,
Came crashing down when I was betrayed.
My dreams were shattered, they all went awry,
Demolishing castles built in the sky,
Light and airy, no substance lingers
My future like water through my fingers.
The pain at first was hard to bear,
But then I realised you didn’t care.
So I got through it, this Feeling Blue,
No doubt ‘Someone Else’ comforted you.
I learned a lesson and picked myself up
Drinking new essence from Life’s rich cup.
Started again, turned things around,
Explored new things, covered new ground.
So as I age and begin to write
This Book of My Life, I see a new light –
The pages reflect some sorrow and pain,
Relief too, as that won’t happen again,
So many things better, as you weren’t a part
Of the wonderful rebirth of my heart.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
