Rory has some interesting questions for us today. Nip over to his blog for the full details and his thought processes here
The Main Questions are
How do you remember moments in your life – what is your process for bringing your memories back to life?
A certain song, place, person or a combination of all three.
Do you think the memories you have of your life from your yesterdays are an honest recollection – or do you think that they change with every re-telling?
Sounds a bit like Chinese Whispers but I have vivid memories of many things.
Some do change in that I forgot a particular detail, or wish I had!
In your opinion how deep is your long term memory?
My long term memory is a probably lot better than my short term, and I am having an awful lot of Boat Moments (our term for forgetfulness as we would forget what we were going to do in 30 feet of living space on the boat)
What are some of your very first memories?
I was about 3 and remembered a front door. It had panels on it and an oval piece of glass at the top. No-one in the family could remember anyone living in a house with a door like that. Going through some very old photographs, my Mum came across a picture of her brother and his first wife. They were standing on their front porch, and there was the door I remembered. They were divorced around 1960.
I remember my aunt smacking me because I didn’t make it to the toilet. Mum was in hospital and I was about 2/3. She wasn’t my real aunt, just a friend of the family, but it was the first thing I told my Mum when she came out. It was not my fault as I had been told not to climb the stairs, and auntie was cleaning the outside toilet and wouldn’t let me inside. Mum was not very happy about it.
Hey Di 🙂
Thanks for commenting, some interesting memories 🙂
The door was so vivid in my mind, yet nobody elses!
Those early memories are few for me but very vivid!!
That aunt sounds like a mean lady.
She was OK and Mum and she remained friends for years afterwards. She hadn’t realised I couldn’t get up the stairs and thought I was just being lazy. It was only a wee thank goodness, and probably the last time I had ‘an accident’. Even now I am paranoid about going to the loo before we go out!
One should give little children some leeway
Very interesting read Di! Off the subject, did you notice you came as “Anonymous” on Rory’s comment section? Are the WP gremlins messing with your stuff again or is that deliberate? I’m just nosy. 😉
No I hadn’t. but it doesn’t surprise me. He answered my comment OK. How weird.
