Monday Peeve,,,,, or any day of the week actually

It was important, and Hubby wanted me to read it, but by the time I was in a position to, it had disappeared!
It was an article in the headlines about proposals to changes in pensions and taxation of.
It was a ‘leaked report’ that was scary in its implications and how the Lifetime Pension Allowance may be reduced, and the penalties that could apply to those who have been planning a comfortable retirement in the future or have sizable works pensions.

Why does the media do that?

My blood pressure went up a few notches I can tell you.
We each have a works pension and become official OAPs when we reach the age of 66 within the next 8 months.
Getting a State Pension will put us both in the tax bracket for the first time in 15 years and the government still want to bleed us !!!!!!!!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Insane! And I also get frustrated with the eternal refreshing of newsfeeds when you have not finished something 😡

  2. The government always makes sure that they get their cut.

    This is the limit!

Sounds dire! I hope it was taken down as sensationalism and inaccurate news!!

    • I hope so too! We have small works pensions to start with but as we both qualify for a State Pension soon, we will end up paying tax on some of it. If they plan to take chunks out of it though, we are stuffed.

    Doesn’t sound good!

  6. I don’t understand. Work pensions are not theirs to cut or alter, surely?

    • From what we understand, State Pensions are not subject to income tax, but any other income, including works pensions or annuities that takes you over the tax threshold (currently £12,570 pa) is.
Workers have been encouraged for years to save into a pension scheme. I believe it is now law that all employers have to provide a pension plan, but some people are being prudent and investing extra money for their retirement. I have no idea if this is what it relates to as we cannot find the article concerned. Robert Maxwell and Jeffrey Archer’s The Fourth Estate came to mind though.

  7. I AM sorry. Pick a government, any government possibly, and you’ll find some greedy assholes running things. There are rumors circulating around over here that Social Security is to be raided (I’d be shocked if it weren’t already depleted. Orange Doodyhead didn’t care about rules. Rules were for OTHER PEOPLE), and perhaps be ended. If they do that, myself and hundreds, if not thousands of other Baby Boomers will be facing poverty and homelessness. It’s madness all over the world. I’m sorry and I hope the news over your way proves out to be just a rumor of the sort ugly people like to start. Keep us posted, yeah?

    • Will do my best. The budget announcement yesterday will do nothing to help us and pensioners are being left out in the cold again. It’s ironic that according to the government’s own website Hubby and I are in severe poverty but we manage and don’t owe a penny to anyone. Yippee when I get my state pension next year (if TPTB don’t cock up my application as they have thousands so far) in that we shall progress to poverty!! It feels weird.
