Today is Friday 15th October

Good morning everyone!
The day is overcast and chilly, but there is a yellow orb trying to break free of the clouds, so it might brighten up later. I am so glad we took a chance and got the washing done and dry outside yesterday.

Today is a quiet day compared with those of late, but next week is going to be hectic.
The scales were not friendly this morning so I shall be extra strict with myself now to hopefully pull it back.
The good news is I am not actually out of my target parameters, but I don’t like things to get too out of hand. Lunch today is therefore a pasty for Hubby and I shall do a tomato and mushroom bake for me.  No treats today or tomorrow.

The generator box is coming along and should be finished later today. Hubby has the necessary electrics he needs so will be drilling a hole through the wall for the cable.
This is simply a precaution in case things do go belly up and we lose power here. We are not daft enough to assume that we can run everything as we do now but this is purely to run our gas central heating pump, the fridge freezer, telephone router, and a couple of lights. We have torches and candles too.

I have a couple of letters to post so will do that when we go for a walk later. Hopefully the day will not be rushed and we can recharge our own batteries.

Hope your day is off to a good start.
Take care everyone and keep safe.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Good morning Di, Quick question regarding the electrical box…has anything changed in regard to electrical grid in England, (ie. rolling black outs, talk of that being more of a possibility this winter, etc,) or is this just something you’ve wanted to do for a while? I have one that I can attach my generator to on this end, but I need to look at it. I think it is wired to our main breaker panel, and would prefer to have something totally separate. and did I read last week, you guys are looking for a puppy? take care. dm

    • Hi Doug,
The UK is in a mess and fast going down the toilet, so the little generator has been purchased as a back up plan in case we lose power due to the energy crisis as we are dependent on electricity here. It’s enough to run the pump for the central heating, the freezer, phone router and lights. We are also replacing the cooker and getting a gas hob and electric fan oven as then I can cook on the gas burners as I did in the boat. The latter has been on the cards for a while as i was never happy with my cooker when I bought it in 2018.
Yes, we are looking for a pup, but so far nothing to suit. Older dogs have issues, especially socialising which for someone like me is not good for them as I am always fussing other dogs, so it wouldn’t be fair. Maggie knew we loved her best and learned to share, though sometimes she got the hump. A pup would know nothing different from day one. You OK?

I think those things you are doing are awesome and prudent. We are both well. I have another week or so on a large barn I have been building. Been there 5 weeks already. I come home exhausted, so not much creative energy to blog. 🙂 Had probably the best apple harvest EVER..this weekend we are hoping to press apple cider. Have 3 your people coming to visit who as I understand it, are from England. They are visiting a relative here in Iowa, and wanted to have a picnic @ our little farm in the country.

      • Thanks. We are just planning for the worst and hoping it won’t come to that, but things are not looking good actually.
Enjoy your visitors Doug. Take care and keep safe.

  3. HI Di, isn’t keeping your weight right a huge struggle for us all? It is best to keep and eye on it.

    • I seem to have hit the right balance and keeping within my parameters, but it is a conscious effort. next week is going to be hard as we are out every day so I can’t plan or prepare in advance. Time is also a factor, so a late meal around say 4pm won’t work for us. We’ll be OK though.

  4. NMake the most of your quiet day, just a shame you can’t have a pasty!

Oct 15! It’s unbelievable how fast the year is going by, soon it’d be Christmas! For now on the scale starts to get crazy. Low temperatures and all the delicious food of the season. We need to be very careful 🙂 Have a great day!

I hope today was relaxing – I’m getting ready for lunch and then a slew of chores. Saturday is a big cooking day with son#2 and my inlaws coming over for a roast turkey dinner! I told them I wouldn’t make a pie but now it seems I will anyway since apples were on sale and in season.
