Throwback Thursday #8 – Collections

Lauren and Maggie co-host the Throwback Thursday blog hop. and this week it’s Lauren’s turn

This week’s prompt is: Collections – Take this prompt wherever it leads you. Here are some suggestions to consider.

Did you start collecting things as a young child? We’re there special trinkets you enjoyed saving? Where did you keep your treasures? Do you still have anything from your early collections? Did you collect things because family and friends wanted to contribute to your “set?” Do you have collections now? Do you enjoy adding to a friend or family member’s prize collections? Have you ever needed to tell someone to please stop adding to the hoard? Have you inherited anyone’s collection?
I had an unusual collection for a while, and that was coloured toilet tissue. Not rolls, just a sheet or two pilfered from bathrooms when we visited as it was such a novelty from boring white, or worse, the shiny paper rectangles of school! Surprisingly there aren’t that many colours to choose from now, and we prefer white anyway.

From there, I progressed to collecting postcards, but they were never those I received and the ones I bought were never sent,  so this was short lived.

I was once given a beautiful china bell as a gift, and loved it so much, everyone started buying them for me. I had a fair collection of those too, but they all went to charity in the Great Sort Out, and the only one we kept was the one we filled with sand on the Isle of Wight.

Hubby and I collected teddy bears for years. We had a huge HUG but again most were sent to charity when we bought the boat as we had nowhere to keep them. Each one had a story, and we kept a few, including Grandad, my childhood bear who was lovingly repaired by Hubby some years ago. You can read about that here

These are the ones we have now. Maybe we’ll start to add to them again…………

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  2. I totally forgot about my Beanie Baby collection. I had tons of them. I ended up donating and mailing them off to the immigrant children who were being horribly housed by dTrump.

Di, I forgot all about colored toilet tissue! That was a flashback! Donating items to charity is always a good thing to do when downsizing a collection. I love your teddy bears and your story about Grandad. We love to watch The Repair Shop and the ladies that restore precious stuffed animals. Your hubby is amazing! How special.

  4. I have never seen colored toilet paper! That is hilarious! I would be afraid it would stain my skin.
