Story starter #15

Fandango is our host for the FSS, more of which you can discover here

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:

She was shocked when she opened the envelope and saw that it was…

The day had started like any other. The little niggles of the past few days were forgotten and she could concentrate on more important matters.
This was going to be the holiday of a lifetime. She had been holding down two jobs and a couple of extra shifts when needed, so the money was allocated and she could enjoy herself for the first time in years.
Being single again held a lot of appeal, and now that her finances were sorted out, she was going to have some definite Me Time and a lot of fun.
Singing softly to herself, she collected the mail and went into the kitchen for breakfast.
Over toast and coffee she identified the handwriting on one, but the other was typewritten.
She was shocked when she opened the envelope and saw it was the results of a test she’d had last week.
Putting her coffee down slowly, she read and reread the letter.
She was a perfect match for a young girl needing a bone marrow transplant and the procedure was scheduled for the day after tomorrow.
Holidays could wait. Now was the time for her to give someone the chance of life.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Wonderful! A former co-worker has just donated a kidney to a person she’d never met – she saved his life and she now has a new friend!

    • I worked with a girl who was finally diagnosed with kidney failure and she was lucky to be found a match within a few months. She corresponded with her kidney twin (the guy who had the other one) for years. I think it’s wonderful.

  3. Oh that was so moving! What a great take on the prompt! Wonderful writing, Di! 🙂
