Deja Vu anyone?

Hubby woke up with toothache this morning, nothing too dramatic, just a nuisance so he wanted to get it looked at before it became a major issue.
We changed dental surgeries less than a year ago as our existing surgery was 35 miles away and we felt we needed something more local. Our neighbour recommended hers having just changed, and we got an appointment for the following week.
Funnily enough, she’d had her initial appointment cancelled three times and actually had her first appointment after us!
We’ve had 2 checkups, one of which resulted in the digging for gold deep clean, Hubby had a filling, and I had a small filling along the gum line that didn’t need anesthetic. So far, we have spent over £260 in dental care there.
Checking out NHS dental charges, I noticed that a descale and polish should be included in the first tier price of £23.80, but this was not done on either of our visits, though they were happy to charge forty quid extra for said Deep Clean.
The problem is contact.  Health care is dependent on getting through to the people you need when you need them, so it is a rather eerie scenario when you ring a surgery, get put on hold……….. and the same music as our previous doctor’s surgery drives you to insanity.
We tried for well over TWO HOURS to get through to reception at the dental practice, and being on hold all the time when using a mobile phone is not cheap, even when you disconnect the call after 5 minutes.
So, we rang our previous dentist as unlike doctors, notes aren’t transferred between practices. When the dental practice in our town closed 3 years ago, we were glad to find we had never been taken off their books when we bought the boat in 2014.
The line connected on the third ring, straight to a receptionist.
She remembered us, and Hubby had her laughing in seconds.
Result? He has an appointment tomorrow afternoon.

There is another advantage to going back to them. Their practice is all on one floor whereas where we are currently we have to go up steep, narrow stairs and there is no lift.  They also have a car park, and they don’t hurt us. Oh, and I shall also be checking on the descale and polish thing tomorrow too.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    Hi, happy October!
We have students dentists doing their final year at our hospital, they are much cheaper, far slower, but very through and thoughtful. I don’t know if they are still z thing, with Covud, but I need to ring them and get z much overdue check up too. I’m glad you got your appointment, I hope all goes well.

Wow. I’ve considered changing my dentist but haven’t found a place that is any better. I guess you stay with the devil you know!

    • The dentist we are going to today has never let us down, but distance was always an issue. However, weighing things up, their reliability, the convenience of parking and all being on one floor is very much in their favour.

  5. A wonderful solution all round!
