Today is Thursday 23rd September

It is midnight plus forty five,  so the day has just started but we haven’t signed off for the night. I couldn’t tell you what the weather is doing as it’s dark outside, but it’s pretty quiet, so it’s not raining or windy.

It’s a special day today as my late FIL would have been 100 years old today. Sadly he passed away in 2004, but we shall be lighting a candle for him later in the day.

I had a soft spot for Hubby’s Dad. It took a while to appreciate his sense of humour, but we got on very well and I have a host of fond memories concerning cakes, playing Father Christmas, roast dinners, and our debates. Oh how I miss our debates. Sometimes he would deliberately take the opposite view and although sometimes things got a bit heated, it was just the passion of what we believed or how we felt.
He was already retired from the army when Hubby and I got together, though he did have his reservations when we first met. Apparently he said I seemed like a nice girl, but did he (Hubby) know what he was doing?
He was over the moon for us when we paid off our mortgage, bartered with us for a new computer when he gave up driving and insisted Hubby have his car which was only a few years old,  and I have visions of him chatting with my Dad over a glass of homebrew and tucking into one of my Mum’s apple pies.

Happy birthday Dad. We miss you ❤

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

What a wonderful memory of a father in law! If only others had good experiences like that! I count you very fortunate! I’m sure he will see the candle and be smiling!

  3. He obviously did know what he was doing!
