Rory asks: Is the ‘Etiquette’ of Good Manners Really Dead?

Nip over to Rory’s blog for more info on what inspired his questions this week

The Questions

Do you think good manners is dying from society?

Do you think that political correctness is the ‘modern’ form of etiquette for society today?

Which do you think is better – political correctness or diversity correctness?

OK then

Do you think good manners is dying from society?
In a nutshell, yes. It costs nothing to say please or thank you and being polite, yet few people seem to abide by it. I guess I’m old fashioned, but if someone did me a favour, remembered my birthday, or provided a service such as serving me in a shop, I say thank you.

Do you think that political correctness is the ‘modern’ form of etiquette for society today?
No. PC has got totally out of hand and should be replaced with ‘I’m covering my own ass mate.’

Which do you think is better – political correctness or diversity correctness?
Everyone is different, entitled to their opinion and to live their lives as they wish, provided they don’t force their beliefs on others.
IMO people will do, think, believe what they want of Correctness providing it suits them, seems fashionable, and they can’t be arrested for it.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I agree with your answers. Now I am off to read the link you gave.

  2. Well said Rory. I agree. Sadly, I think manners are quickly dying. PC is killing us. And i think tolerance is the best solution instead of either PC or diversity correctness. I miss you Rory. Where’ve you been?

  3. Ok, those were funny PC rules.

  4. Rudeness is acceptable in today’s world, especially in the way people drive. I strive to show a little kindness in response. Younger people deal with stuff, I certainly didn’t have to.

    *sigh* all too true!

  6. Ah, being PC cures everything because you end up overthinking what you’re going to say so you don’t say anything and no one’s offended because no one’s speaking. (This and being PC is a joke. )

I’m reminded of a shop assistant who summed up the general public in very few words.
Ignorant, entitled, rude, arrogant, and will complain if you dare challenge their attitude.

This is what the politically correct, KAREN world, the decent people in life have been forced to accept by our weak, wet, gormless government. They ably assisted by what is being taught in schools.
