Throwback Thursday #2: Sentimental Pictures

Lauren is our host this week as she alternates with Maggie.

Today’s subject: Sentimental Pictures

What pictures were you gifted? Did you ask for them or was the gift a surprise? What did you decide to do with the pictures? Did you give them to other family members? If you were not gifted pictures, were you given other sentimental items? Do you have any items you want passed down to family or friends? Have you already let them know what you will be giving them?
With so many photographs, rather than leave them all in a box, we put together collages and had them hanging up in the cottage. When we bought the boat, we had nowhere to hang them, so reduced them in size and laminated them, so that we could put them up on the walls with blu tack.

There were 5 living generations in this one, my nephews/nieces, mine, Mum and Dad, their parents, and their grandparents on both sides.
These were the others we did

There are a lot of family dogs in these too!

My SIL put her photographs into a coffee table and covered it with glass. It looked very effective and I wonder if she still has it since they moved to NZ 25 years ago.

Of course now we are in the digital age, photos like this are not so numerous as we can select the ones we like and want to keep from our chip then delete those that cut off heads, are blurred or out of proportion.

As to pictures I have been gifted, I can think of only one, and that is of my maternal grandmother who died several years before I was born. Mum gave it to me over ten years ago.
They say we are all very alike………… Mum and Bro approx 1950

Mum and me in her kitchen approx 1986

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

These are lovely, Di. We had lots of collage frames at one time, but not things we made ourselves. I can see how well that would have worked living on the boat. I do see lovely resemblances running through your family. Photos of individuals side by side help us see how similar we are to one another. Such lovely treasures!

  2. Thanks for joining in Di. I love your collages. I made a giant collage when my mom passed away and had it on the table at the celebration of life I threw for her. It was fun to see people viewing her photos from childhood to her 80’s.

    Lovely memories, beautiful pictures

  4. Digital photos are good but physical photos and collages are a bit more closer to my heart. I have a photo wall that is quite close to my heart.

It is so good to have actual printed photos. I’m always afraid my phone or computer saved photos will one day be deleted forever. Your collages are really special. 🙂

I have family portraits hanging in my computer room – I hope they will be cherished once I shuffle off this mortal coil….

Collages and coffee table tops – what wonderful, creative ways to display photos!
