I thought I might have to skip Jim’s challenge this week as I’m not really a sports fan and the mind went blank.
However, thinking later of You’ll Never Walk Alone being probably the most famous football anthem ever, I’d already used that for Jim’s challenge last September when his theme was musicals.
So I’ve gone for another footie anthem and Chelsea’s Blue Is The Colour, the lyrics are in the clip. Hardly a classic, but it gets the foot tapping……… sort of.

Blue Is the Colour was written by Daniel Boone and Rod McQueen and is a terrace chant associated with Chelsea Football Club. It was performed by the squad and released in 1972 to coincide with the club’s ultimately unsuccessful appearance in the League Cup final of that year against Stoke City. The record was issued on the Penny Farthing Records label and reached number 5 in the UK Charts and number 8 in Ireland in March 1972. It has become one of the most well-known English football songs.

In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too.
On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts.
From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives.
We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
I enjoyed hearing the song – very jaunty! I’ll bet it’s fun singing it a the games. 🙂
It was popular at the time.
This sounds like a good drinking song Di. Nice pick.
Football fans do enjoy a good beer…………. or several.
This is a new one for me, Di! Such fun to listen to.
In the 70s it was all the rage for the football squads to release a record, even if they couldn’t sing!
